I was craving a post-work pint on Sunday and dragged Sophie out to the Victory Cafe. As a couple of hop heads, it was no surprise that we both ordered the Durham Hop Head, especially as it was the cask offering. The head was surprisingly full and creamy, leaving a lot of lacing on the glass. The hazy straw colour of the beer just radiated in the late-afternoon sun. Strong aromas of citrus and pine. The beer explodes with fruit flavours at the beginning – apricot, lemon and tropical fruits. This gives way to a pine finish, with a moderate bitterness that slowly creeps up through the pint. There is little malt and I wouldn’t have it any other way. The Hop Head truly lives up to its name.
