August 19th

Last night was the Golden Tap Awards (more on that tomorrow) and was asked whether my beer tally included all beers I drank, even after a long session. And the answer is, of course, yes. For frequent followers, it is obvious that many nights of mine aren’t spent at bars engaged in long sessions, but there are reasons for that. A main reason is that I currently exist in a strong-beer phase where lots of examination and testing of high alcohol brews goes on. Trying to go through more than two pints/bottles/glasses of anything above 6% will probably result in me getting a floor/bar/slap imprint on my face. There is also the nagging voice of Soph telling me that all this beer consumption will eventually lead to a nicely sized gut (which, for the time being, is laughable to anyone who has seen my spindly frame around town).

The timing of the question was funny because of the fact that this post was waiting to be written up with a description of a night of drinking at the Victory Cafe. A nice trio of the Black Oak Summer Saison (on cask, which really brought out the spices and made for a musty beer), Beau’s Lug-Tread Lagered Ale (simple, yet delicious) and Duggan’s #9 IPA (always a favourite). Sessions don’t really make for good blogging though, at least not when these beers are getting their nth write-up. But it is an opportunity to say that the Victory has updated their website and you can now check what they have on tap/cask before heading out. And the person who asked me that question mentioned waaaay back at the beginning of this post (admit it, you’ve already forgotten) was Grimes from Beer With Me and you should go check out his blog.
