Curse you, Mondays! Not only am I still recovering from the Seattle trip, but it was been a hellacious day at work (complete and utter network collapse, followed by a brief power outage). It’ll probably take a couple of days to get some Seattle content up so here are some new tidbits to tide you over until then.
Mill Street Brew Master’s Dinner
Mill Street are hosting another Brew Master’s Dinner on Thursday November 25th at 6:30pm. The dinner will feature their Pilsner, Vanilla Porter, Betelgeuse, Rauchbier and 2010 Barley Wine paired with a four-course meal. Tickets are $59.99 and the full menu is on the brewpub website.
Gourmet Food & Wine EXPO Adds Some Brews
The Gourmet Food & Wine Expo is taking place this weekend in Toronto, though don’t discount it as an all-wine affair. Beau’s, Big Rock, Creemore, Innis & Gunn, McAuslan, Mill StreetNickel Brook, Premium Beer Company and Rickard’s will be present, adding a craft beer touch to the event. Some foreign brands and/or importers will be present, as well as a number of the larger breweries will also be there (but we won’t talk about that). The Expo runs Thursday through Sunday (November 18th-21st), with tickets for most days costing $16 (the VIP preview on Thursday will run you $35).
More garrison headed to Toronto
After the success of the Garrison Imperial Pale Ale in LCBOs (anyone else having a hard time finding it?), Bar Towel Imports is conducting a private order for a wide range of Garrison beers. As someone who doesn’t often do private orders because I can’t and won’t drink a case of one beer, the Brewmaster’s Mix is a lovely solution: two each (500ml) of the Black IPA, Martello Stout, Winter Warmer, Grand Baltic Porter, Ol’ Fog Burner Barley Wine and the aforementioned Imperial Pale Ale, all for a respectable $73.
The nutcracker is back!
And no, I’m not referring to the ballet, but the Black Oak Nutcracker Porter. The Nutcracker won the bronze in the porter category at this year’s Canadian Brewing Awards and may be the best porter in Ontario. It is available right now at the Black Oak brewery (75 Horner Ave, Unit #1, Mon-Sat 10-4) for $12.75 a six-pack. I usually hate the fact that Christmas stuff comes out earlier each year, but I’m fine with the Nutcracker doing so.
